Standing Seam Metal RoofsThursday, April 19, 2007Metal Roofing Profiles US-200Profiles US-200 Standing Seam Panel The Ultra Seam standing seam system utilizes state of the art technology for roof integrity and positive weather-tightness. The Ultra Seam US-200 panel has been extensively tested in both steel and aluminum, and meets the stringent requirements of the “Standard Test Method for Structural Performance of SSMRS by Uniform Static Air Pressure Difference,” which has been adopted as ASTM E-1592. Seams require machine closing, by either hand or power seamers, both available on a job rental basis. The seaming process completely encloses and seals all clips and fasteners for the most watertight seal available. The US-200 panel, in addition to the standard 90-degree seam, can be double-locked to obtain a 180 degree architectural profile. The standing seam system is especially suitable where roof slopes are long and/or low, and unusually long panels are required. Available in various gauges of galvanized steel, galvalume, zincalume, aluminum, copper, zinc and stainless steel. Regardless of which material is selected, the optional stiffening ribs or striations are highly recommended in order to reduce the slight surface waviness of the metal known as “oil-canning.” Note: “oil-canning” is a natural phenomenon inherent in sheet metal products and therefore is not cause for rejection of the material.http://www.ultraseam.com

Retrofit Systems

RETROFIT SYSTEMS
RETROFIT SYSTEMS In recent years, a new metal re-roofing concept has been developed to retrofit existing flat roofs to eliminate leaks. With this new system, typical metal roof benefits of classic neat appearance, wide color choice, lightweight and long lasting leak-free service life has become a "fountain of youth" for many older buldings. The concept consists of an Ultra Seam metal roofing system supported on an engineered metal framing system, which also creates the desired slope. Low cost adddition of insulation is optional. Due to the systems's extremely light weight, the new assembley can usually be installed right over the existing roofing without tear-off. Introduction of slope to the flat roof allows re-routing of drainage to eliminate troublesome internal drains.Re-Roofing with metal allows older buildings to enjoy substantial savings in roof maintenance for years to come. Roof/Wall Accessosries

Roof/Wall AccessosriesCeco has translucent panels for wall or roof use to match most panel configurations. These panels allow you to put natural light where you need it.The roof panels are manufactured from a polyester resin reinforced with a mesh of woven fiberglass cloth and chopped glass fibers. The wall panels are made similarly but without the woven fiberglass reinforcing.Translucent panel installation is very similar to steel panel installation since they corrugate with adjacent steel panels at both end laps and side laps. Also, translucent roof panels are available with the CLP and CXP standing seam roof.http://www.ultraseam.com/

Profile US-175LUS-175LS Lock Seam Panel

Metal Roofing
Profile US-175L
US-175LS Lock Seam Panel Ribs of adjacent Lok Seam panels snap together, enclosing the concealed clips and provide a positive metal-to-metal lock. In turn, the enclosed clips positively secure the adjacent panels to the roof structure. Seams require no machine closing, yet are continuously and securely locked in place. By eliminating the need for mechanical seaming, installation time and cost can be greatly reduced. Also available in 1-1/2" rib height (US-150LS). The US-150LS has a slightly different locking detail from the US-175.

The Ultra Seam Flush Panel system

The Ultra Seam Flush Panel system is ideal for gable walls and soffits where a smooth flat surface is desired. Horizontal flanges of 1-1/8" or 1-1/2” seams interlock and provide attachment surfaces for concealed fasteners. The panel seam combined with attachment flanges strengthens the panel to provide good spanning capacity. Fewer supporting structural members needed for high gables and wider soffits means lower installation cost. Available in twelve inch and sixteen inch widths.

Repair or Replace

Repair or Replace http://www.ultraseam.com/ Repair or ReplaceUnderstanding potential weaknesses of roofing material also requires knowledge of repair difficulties. Individual slates can be replaced normally without major disruption to the rest of the roof, but replacing flashing on a slate roof can require substantial removal of surrounding slates. If it is the substrate or a support material that has deteriorated, many surface materials such as slate or tile can be reused if handled care fully during the repair. Such problems should be evaluated at the outset of any project to determine if the roof can be effectively patched, or if it should be completely replaced. Will the repairs be effective? Maintenance costs tend to multiply once trouble starts. As the cost of labor escalates, repeated repairs could soon equal the cost of a new roof. The more durable the surface is initially, the easier it will be to maintain. Some roofing materials such as slate are expensive to install, but if top quality slate and flashing are used, it will last 40-60 years with minimal maintenance. Although the installation cost of the roof will be high, low maintenance needs will make the lifetime cost of the roof less expensive.

Types of Metal Roofs: Galvanized Steel

Types of Metal Roofs: Galvanized SteelGalvanized steel is the most common metal choice for a metal roof. The material is affordable and offers excellent structural capabilities. Plain steel is coated with a layer of hot-dipped commercially pure zinc to provide corrosion protection. Zinc is considered a sacrificial element and works well as a metallic coating. When the metal is cut or damaged, the zinc coating will protect that area from corrosion. Galvanized steel is warranted against corrosion for up to 20 years and offers excellent barrier protection. Galvanized metallic coatings are designated G-30, G-60, and G-90. This means that the weight of zinc on the steel is 30.-, 60.-, or 90-oz. per square foot, counting both the top and the bottom side of the sheet. The Metal Roofing Alliance recommends the use of only G-90 for roofing applications.Galvalume steel combines the metallic coatings of both aluminum and zinc. This combination joins the healing properties of zinc with the superior barrier protection of aluminum. Galvalume steel offers superior weathering properties and is used in various application weights, the most common being AZ-55. http://www.ultraseam.com/

Types of Metal Roofs: Copper

Types of Metal Roofs: CopperCopper has a life expectancy measured in centuries; however, the material is very costly. Many will recognize copper roofs for the characteristic patina-green color that occurs when the copper oxidizes. Copper retains its original color when an acrylic layer is applied. Strong and very resistant to corrosion, copper is also easy to roll into sheets, but installation may be intricate.http://www.ultraseam.com/

Types of Metal Roofs: Zinc

Types of Metal Roofs: ZincZinc offers exceptional corrosion resistance. Like copper, this material also changes color as it oxidizes, turning a bluish-white. Zinc is malleable, enabling the creation of many attractive individual shingles and tiles.http://www.ultraseam.com/

Types of Metal Roofs: Aluminum

Types of Metal Roofs: AluminumAluminum is an affordable and extremely lightweight roofing material. It can be used either painted or unpainted; regardless, it will need a finish. Aluminum has a high coefficient of expansion, causing some thermal movement. Like steel, aluminum has a high strength-to-weight ratio. In addition, this material has excellent corrosion resistance and is ideal for coastal environments.http://www.ultraseam.com/

Types of Metal Roofs

Types of Metal RoofsStanding-seam metal roofs have been popular for centuries. The term standing seam is used to describe any type of joinery that uses an upturned portion of the metal to connect adjacent metal sections. The joinery raises the seam above the drainage plane of the panel, creating its distinctive vertical lines. In the past, the original standing-seam roof involved only the 90-deg. adjacent metal upstands that could be single or double folded at the top. Today standing-seam joints are held together with a concealed clip, or cleat, at the seam. The clip involves a male and a female upstand that joins with or without seaming. Other versions of standing seam incorporate a nailing flange to the roof, which is then covered up by the next panel as it is snapped into place.http://www.ultraseam.com/
